Shatter me (Shatter Me #1) - Taherah Mafi

Author: Taherah Mafi
Publisher: Harper Teen
Publication Date: November 15th 2011
Number of pages: 338

 Synopsis:
I have a curse
I have a gift

I am a monster
I'm more than human

My touch is lethal
My touch is power

I am their weapon
I will fight back

Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

My opinion:
First of all, I know, I'm extremely late to the party. Better now then never, right?
Before giving my opinion, I just want to say that it took me an incredibly long time to read this book.
Now, don't get me wrong, it was not that I didn't like this book. I just had a LOT of reading for school, in the middle of reading this book.
Okay, okay now my opinion.
First, I absolutely loved the writing. I love that her bad thoughts are crossed out and that what she is supposed to believe is written after that. I find it super creative and refreshing.
One of the main themes in this novel was romance. When you mention romance, I'm all in. I absolutely loved the way Julliete and Adam's love story developed.
Although I can see why some people might not like it, because it is said to be a dystopian, while romance is the main element in this story. If romance isn't for you, this book probably isn't too.
All in all, I liked it. 5 out of 5 stars from me! On to the next book!

  1. Yay that you enjoyed this one!! I was pretty late to the part for it too, don't worry, haha, but it was great and I thought it was such a creative and unique way to tell a supervillain tale. And I LOVE the characters and the books get better as they go on too.😍
